Willis Garth Poindexter September 15, 1804 - October 12, 1869 Willis married Emily P. Slaughter on October 10, 1836 in Russell Parish, Bedford County, Virginia. He was listed as a resident in the census report August 14, 1850 in Bedford County, Virginia, Northern District. Willis died in Bedford County, Virginia, at the age of 65. There is a story (no proof) that Willis was riding home so fast that his horse missed a corner and he and the horse fell into a nearby pond drowning Willis. He was either on the horse or in a buggy. Willis's land was 493 acres on both sides of Elk Creek. Take a left at Chestnut Grove sign on 663, after you pass the church go one half mile. Take right road and cemetry is under the power lines going to the house.
